Two Nudgee Old Boys selected for ‘Ship for World Youth’ program

Story Added : November 2006

On Tuesday 16th January, 2007, eleven young Australians recognized leaders in their communities will depart for Japan to represent Australia on the 19th ‘Ship for World Youth’ program – one of the world’s most unique international exchange programs.

An initiative of the Prime Minister’s Office within the government of Japan, the ‘Ship for World Youth’ brings together 200 young people from fourteen nations from around the world. The aim of the exchange is to study global issues affecting youth, to encourage international cooperation and understanding and to promote friendship between the youths of Japan and the youths of other nations.

The ‘Ship for World Youth’ program is based onboard a cruise liner, giving participants not only the opportunity to live and interact with each other, but to visit several different countries and experience first hand their lifestyles and cultures. In 2007 the ‘Ship for World Youth’ will visit Australia, Fiji and Tonga, docking at Brisbane in February from Tuesday 6th until Thursday 8th.

The Australian delegation was selected by the Australian Government’s Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and it hails from a cross-section of states, industries and professions.
