St Joseph’s Nudgee College held their ANZAC Day
ceremony on Monday April 24, with staff, students and friends of the
College again honoured by the many servicemen who attended the morning.
“The vitality of these men, along with the vivid memories they
have of their school days is indeed impressive,” said Principal,
Mr. Daryl Hanly.
This year, a particular group was invited – the students of 1941 – those
who attended the College during the year in which Pearl Harbour was attacked.
It was a fitting remembrance of the 65th anniversary of the bombing.
Aldo Caligaris, Jack Connolly, Brian Crutcher, Kevin Dunne, Frank Ellis,
Paul Keating, Brian Kinnane, Stephen Logan, Greg McGrath, Joe Morris,
Kevin Hegerty, Rod Hetherington, Pat Needham, Frank O’Hara and
Kevin Thumpkin from the 1941 cohort, attended the ceremony and morning
tea which followed.
The day which was also attended by St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace
old boys, family and friends was, as always, a fitting tribute to the
men who fought in the wars – those who regrettably lost their lives,
as well as those who fortunately returned. 45 Nudgee boys lost their
lives in World War I and 102 in World War II.
