However, the school philosophy was underpinned by the Catholic notion that all people have gifts, and furthermore, by the concept that an active boy is a happy boy. In those days the sports included gymnastics, athletics and rugby. In the days before radio and TV, boarders were entertained by oratory nights, singing and simple talent quests. Over 100 years later, while our numbers have expanded, lay teachers have largely replaced the Brothers and our facilities are often world class, our core beliefs are still the same; boys come to us with many and varied gifts and the opportunity to express those gifts is essential for their happiness and the growth in their esteem.
