Paul Williams (1964-68) emailed following the death of two
North Queensland Nudgee Old Boys...
You probably know of the passing of Mort Johnston. I
will post some cuttings from the Cairns Post to show the very high esteem
in which Mort was held by the Tully community. I remember well Br Darcy
telling me when he was doing the rounds up here when the Chapel was refurbished
that Mort wrote the College a cheque for a substantial five figure sum
on the spot. This was what he thought of the role Nudgee had played in
his formation and success.
I also report the passing of Kevin Lacey, another northerner
of no lesser stature than Mort. Kevin had been unwell for many years
but always answered the call to our reunions stating that he could not
make it but enclosing his cheque anyway with the words, “Have one
for me”.
My life for one is much better for having had the pleasure
of knowing these two fine examples of ‘Sign
of Faith. |
