Robert Parer (1950 - 53) sent the following email on 21.10.05…

On Friday I am travelling to Holbrook NSW tomorrow for the funeral of Michael Parer (1948-52). Michael was my first cousin and was the leader of the Parer mob at Nudgee. There were six of us there at the time. Mick had been pretty sick for a year or so now with Motor Neurone disease.

Editor's Note:
For all those who knew Mick and will be saddened by his death – particularly the Class of ’52 - and for those who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing him and his family, I offer the following information.

At 2pm on Friday October 20, 2005 at Holbrook in New South Wales, the funeral service for Michael Parer took place. He was an ex member of the Black Diamonds, the first Avon Sabre team and the second official RAAF aerobatic team (the Black Diamonds were a predecessor of The Roulettes).   Mick came to Nudgee Junior and then Nudgee from Maleny.

Mick was a very special man from a family whose name is written in Australian history.  Damien Parer’s name is known for Australia’s first academy award - he bravely filmed “Kokoda Front Line” in the Second World War.  Ray Parer was in the two great air races from England to Australia in 1919 and 1934 and was the first person to fly a single engine aircraft from England to Australia.

Michael retired from the Air Force as a Wing Commander.  His widow, Jen can be contacted on 02 6036 9529. His Obituary can be found on our website.
