I came across these newspaper cuttings when I was clearing-out my old files. Thought you might like to pass these on, as I am sure it will bring back memories to those who attended Nudgee from 1958 to 1964
My brother "Carl" and I were at Nudgee from 1958 to 1964. After leaving Nudgee, we returned to Hong Kong. I am now living with my wife, Kimberley in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Sharon Evans advised our office that her father Brian Joseph Degney had died on 14 April 1997.
Secretary Lawrie Cusack, who coordinates the conduct of our Annual Memorial Mass responded to her with the following email. This email and her response are printed below.
Dear Sharon,
Your email is bitter / sweet. I am delighted to hear from you but saddened by the news that my old classmate has died. Brian left Nudgee after Junior in 1948. Like many others, his life and mine went in different ways and our paths did not cross again.
Your father was a very popular member of the class. In 2000 we held a 50 year reunion at which there were many enquiries of ‘where’s Brian Degney?’
On behalf of the President and Members of the Nudgee Old Boys’ Association and very much on my own behalf I express sincere condolences in the death of your Father.
Brian will be included in our Memorial Mass to be celebrated in the College Chapel on Saturday 29th November at 7.30am. I invite you and your family to attend the Mass and to share breakfast with us after the Mass and hopefully meet some of our former classmates.

Thank you so very much for your reply. As mentioned, I found the Nudgee news on the internet last night. I will phone mum shortly to enlighten her of my findings last night and of my email and to your reply. Thank you for your very touching email.
It is a shame people lose touch and time goes just so quickly. I live in Orange. My two sisters live a lot closer to Brisbane, one at the Gold Coast and one at Tweed Heads, so possibly someone may be able to attend on 29th November. Mum and Mike live in Forster – geography is a pain sometimes. Should anyone in the family be able to attend I will advise you.
