Henry Thomas Valmadre (1949-52)
Born: 11th June 1935 - Died: 10th May 2008
The Requiem Mass to celebrate the life of Henry Thomas Valmadre took place in the Nudgee College chapel at 11.00am on Friday 16th May 2008. Fr Peter McCarthy celebrated the Mass and preached the Homily.
The Chapel was filled with family and old friends. These included a number of Nudgee Old Boys, some who had shared time in class and sport with Henry between 1949 and 52. Also represented were many members of the Pharmacy profession, friends from Henry ’s days in Proserpine and later in Brisbane.
After leaving Nudgee, Henry studied Pharmacy and returned to Proserpine where he opened his business which flourished under his guidance and a result of the gracious and gentle disposition of Henry. Dozens of Nudgee Old Boys became accustomed to breaking their journey north or south to call in to see Henry.
Henry worked for his church in Proserpine, particularly in the area of the Planned Giving Program and really typified the way the Spirit of Nudgee is carried by it ’s old boys to the many towns and centres throughout the country. He was a pillar of his community and his church, always by his example projecting his faith.
The Eulogy was jointly presented by Charlie Valmadre – Henry’s brother, Sonya Pozzi (nee Valmadre) his daughter and Thomas Valmadre who spoke on behalf of his father Paul Valmadre, - Henry’s son. All described the life and times of Henry seen through the years. In summary they described him in the words of the Commencement Hymn – ‘Strong and Constant’ – which was very much how all who knew Henry saw him.
Nudgee Old Boys extend their sincere sympathy to Henry ’s wife Sylvia, his children, his brothers and the families of all of these. We recognize the devotion and care of all of these, but particularly of Sylvia who has nursed Henry during his long and debilitating illness.
Saints of God, come to his aid!
Come to meet him, angles of the Lord!
Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High
