James Barry

Old Boys, particularly members of the Class of ‘62, will be saddened to learn of the death of James Barry, The Badger.

Jim died in the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He had been in poor health for the last six months and was admitted to intensive care at the RBH 11 days prior to his death. Jim will be fondly remembered as a thorough gentleman, held in high regard by his classmates and all who knew him.

The Requiem Mass and funeral was held at St Agatha’s, Clayfield on Friday, February 18. Twenty Class of ‘62 classmates attended the funeral and a number of others tendered their apologies.

His classmate and long-time friend James Knox gave the eulogy while Pall Bearers were: Bob Myers, Mick Purcell, John McCormack and Jim Knox. His classmates provided a guard of honour as the hearse left the Church James Barry (1959-62) was born in Gayndah in 1945. His older brother Kevin was two years ahead of him at Nudgee and died in 2000. His twin brother, Patrick predeceased him in 2002. He also has three sisters Cath, Veronica and Margaret, a Good Samaritan Sister.

On leaving Nudgee Jim worked for Herga and Co, Watchmakers, in Edward St and then for Evans Deakin until that company’s demise. He was a keen punter and regularly attended race meetings with Jimmie Knox.

‘ The Badger’ will be sadly missed by his family and firends.
